Semi Truck Radiators
Semi-truck radiators are heavy-duty components designed to handle the cooling needs of large powerful diesel engines.
The construction of a semi-truck radiator is similar to that of radiators found in other vehicles, but it often involves larger dimensions and heavy-duty materials to handle the increased cooling demands of semi truck engines. Here's an overview of how a semi-truck radiator is typically made:
- Materials: Semi-truck radiator cores are constructed using materials such as aluminum and copper/ brass. These materials offer excellent heat conductivity and aluminum is lightweight, which is crucial for the radiator's performance and durability.
- Core Assembly: The radiator core is the central component where heat exchange occurs. It consists of a series of thin tubes through which coolant flows, surrounded by metal fins. The tubes are made of aluminum or brass, while the fins are made of aluminum or copper. These components are assembled into a core unit, which forms the main structure of the radiator.
- Tank Construction: Semi-truck radiators have an inlet and outlet tank, which are responsible for holding the coolant and directing its flow through the radiator core. The tanks are made from plastic, aluminum, steel, or brass, depending on the OE (Original Equipment) construction.
- Assembly: The components of the radiator, including the core and tanks, are assembled together with aluminum crimp tabs on the header for a plastic tank and aluminum core radiator, welded together for an aluminum tank and core radiator, soldered together for a brass tank and copper/ brass core radiator, and bolted together for a steel tank and copper/ brass core radiator.
- Mounting Brackets and Fittings: Semi-truck radiators are equipped with mounting brackets and fittings to facilitate installation onto the truck's chassis and connection to the engine's cooling system. These components are usually made of steel, stainless steel, or aluminum for strength, durability, and corrosion resistance.
- Quality Control and Testing: Once the radiator is assembled, it undergoes a quality control check to pressure test it ensure it is leak free.
Overall, the manufacturing process of a semi-truck radiator involves precision engineering and careful assembly to create a robust and efficient cooling system capable of handling the demands of semi truck engines.
Dura-Lite™, in the market for over 30-years has built a solid reputation for Semi Truck Radiators that perform, Semi Truck Radiators that last, and Semi Truck Radiators that we stand behind.
